Overview

EdgeBar is a native macOS application. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information EdgeBar collects, how it is used, and your rights.

Information We Collect

EdgeBar does not collect, transmit, or store any personal data. The app runs entirely on your device and does not send data about how you use it to any server. It contacts our server only for the update check and the license activation described below.

EdgeBar requires macOS Accessibility permission solely to read trackpad input events. This permission is used exclusively on-device and no input data is ever sent off your Mac.

Update Checks

About once a day, and when you choose Check for Updates, EdgeBar asks edgebar.xyz whether a newer version exists. Like any web request, this reveals your IP address and the EdgeBar and macOS version numbers to our host, Cloudflare. No other information about you or your Mac is sent, and you can quit EdgeBar at any time to stop the checks. Updates are verified with a cryptographic signature before they are installed.

License Activation

When you buy EdgeBar, the purchase is handled by Gumroad under Gumroad's Privacy Policy. Gumroad shares your name and email address with us as the seller, so we can support you. Your payment details stay with Gumroad.

One license key works on one Mac at a time. To enforce that, when you activate EdgeBar it sends our server your license key, an anonymous ID for your Mac (a one-way hash of its hardware ID, which cannot be reversed into the ID itself) and your Mac's name, so you can tell which Mac holds the key. EdgeBar repeats a short check about once a day while it is online. We store these details only to apply the one-Mac limit and to help you move a key between Macs, and we do not use them for anything else. Choosing Deactivate This Mac, or using the manage page, releases the key. EdgeBar also stores your key locally in your Mac's Keychain. If you have no internet connection when you first activate, activation will not complete.

Analytics & Tracking

The EdgeBar app does not use any analytics, crash reporting, or tracking SDKs. We have no visibility into how you use the app.

This website may use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page views. It uses no cookies and does not track you across sites or build a personal profile. See Cloudflare Web Analytics for details.

Third-Party Services

This website (edgebar.xyz) is hosted on Cloudflare. Cloudflare may collect standard web server logs (IP address, browser type, referring URL) as part of its infrastructure. Please refer to Cloudflare's Privacy Policy for details.

Children's Privacy

EdgeBar is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes to This Policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the date above. Continued use of EdgeBar after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
